Google Blog Search Adds Hot Queries

by Andrew Freeman on July 13, 2009

It seems Google is trying to bring blog search into the realm of real-time. They have just announced that the blog search homepage will feature Hot Queries and Latest Posts. Just like Twitter, this could be a useful tool that would allow you to monitor blogging trends.

While I don’t envision this being as popular as Twitter Trends, it will be interesting to see if appearing in the Latest Posts list will result in extra traffic. One item I do see happening soon is an attempt to engineer topics appearing in the Hot Queries list. This could be done by a blogger outreach competition, which would have the added bonus of increasing inbound links.

The next question you may have is how do I get my blog to show in this search engine? You can either set up automatic submission (also known as pinging) or you can manually submit here: http://blogsearch.google.com/ping.

What do you think; will this tool become as popular as Twitter’s trending topics? Will we see a huge amount of annoying blog posts trying to engineer these listings?
