If you are like me, you use your LinkedIn profile much like a resume and for professional networking. After my post on the top 5 Facebook applications for business professionals I noted how often I’ve logged into LinkedIn and thought it would be cool to put some add ons in my profile.
LinkedIn has recently jumped on the bandwagon of developing applications for their community. Some of these applications can help you collaborate on projects, obtain valuable information, and even display your work to one of the largest professional networks in the world. Best part about it is that it’s super simple to get this setup. Below are the top 7 LinkedIn applications for business professionals that I found useful:
- Amazon Reading List: This application is one of my favorites. With this app you can find out what the people in your industry and networks are reading. Add a list of books you are currently reading, have read, or are planning to read. This will allow you to come across the latest books that your colleagues and networks are reading.
- Huddle Workspaces: This application allows you to act as a team with your connections, securely and privately. You can exchanges ideas with a forum and are able to monitor the progress with RSS feeds. You are able to create projects and invite specific people to join in and team up with their ideas. You can co-edit your spreadsheets and documents and see the changes that were made as a team. This is a great concept.
- Box.net: This application is very similar to the Huddle Workspace app in that you share important information. You can share and exchange your documents with specific people on LinkedIn. This app provides you with free storage and you can also feature key documents directly on your profile. It’s the ideal way to exhibit your latest projects, past deals or your portfolio.
- Slideshare: This application enables you to share your presentations with your connections and networks. View presentations from all of your associates, find the experts in your industries or topics of interest and share important presentations with your networks and the rest of the LinkedIn community. Get out there and show off what you know!
- Blog Link: This application allows you to connect with your blog on your LinkedIn profile and get the most of your relationships. This app automatically pulls the latest blog posts from around your networks so you can stay recent on the latest posts from all your connections. This is another favorite of mine.
- Company Buzz: This application is great to get out there and see what people are actually saying about your company. All of the time, hundreds of people are sending out messages about companies on blogs, Twitter and across the internet. This app will get this information to you to find the remarks about your company.
- Google Presentations: This application is a professional way to introduce your work and who you are. You can introduce yourself to recruiters and professional contacts viewing your profile with a PowerPoint presentation and display a visual portfolio of your professional accomplishments.
What do you think about these applications? Do you currently use any of them or have an opinion about these? Would you consider adding these apps to your LinkedIn?

Great summary of some cool LinkedIn apps, however, LinkedIn only has 10 apps and I’m surprised about the three you decided to exclude so I wanted to add a little information about them:
“Polls” has great business application as you can use it to ask people a variety of questions, whether consumer focused or recruiting focused. You can also pay extra in order to poll a particular category of professionals.
The “WordPress” app is basically like “BlogLink” but is specialized for WordPress and deserves a quick mention.
I’ll agree that the “TripIt” or “MyTravel” app is less useful than the other 9, but if you travel frequently, especially to tradeshows, seminars, etc you may find it useful in order to connect up with people from your network.
I currently use several of the apps on my profile and I agree that they’re really very useful, I would recommend that people add them in as needed as well. Thanks for the post!
I will be honest, I don’t use and update my Linkedin account enough. These are some cool apps along with the ones mentioned by @Katie V.
Thanks for the info. Think it will get me a little more motivated to login and mess around with my LinkedIn account.
Ohhh! Dope, I had no idea these even existed.
I haven’t really taken the time to keep my LinkedIn profile up to date, but I would definitely use the Amazon Reading List App. Now that I know about it, I’m going to need to spend some time on my profile
Thanks for the info!
