Google’s Search Suggestion Tool

by Andrew Freeman on July 23, 2009

Have you seen a reduction in branded clicks to your Web site recently from Google, and an increase in branded organic traffic?

If so, the Google Search Suggestion feature could be the reason for this change. As of mid-May, searchers have now been given the ability to click straight through to a URL if Google believes a URL to be the most relevant result for your search .  As can be seen in the image below, if I was searching for “entrepreneur.com,” I could go straight to the site without having to visit a SERP’s page.

What does this mean for PPC marketers? Well, it could mean a reduction in conversions for branded phrases, which is likely to increase your cost per conversions. On the plus side, it could mean more free traffic.

This change is most likely going to affect the organizations that either have an unusual name or are such brand giants that everyone seems to search for them. Have you noticed a change? Let us know if you have been affected.
